What is a Firearms Transfer?

A transfer is when a buyer purchases a firearm out of state and needs to complete a background check to obtain the firearm. The buyer has his or her firearm shipped to a licensed FFL like “Phil’s Guns” to Facilitate the Transfer. This procedure is also the way a seller can change ownership of their firearm to a local Buyer.

How Does The Process Work?

  1. Choose from our list of dealers. (If your Dealer is not on our list we can send them our license and they will ship to us.)
  2. Order your gun and choose Phil’s Guns as FFL to ship to.
  3. Makes sure your Phone Number is correct on your order.
  4. When we receive your firearm we will call you when it is available for you to pick up. Most shops say you can pick up after 48 hours but we don’t. We call you when it is logged in our books. so please be patient and wait for our call.
  5. After we call you, you will come into the shop and fill out all necessary paperwork
  6. You must show you are a Missouri Resident for handgun purchases, Long Guns can be purchased by out of state residents. Valid Drivers License with current address is needed. If your license does not show your Current address then Alternative Government Documentation with correct address is needed.
  7. You will need $35 Cash or $40 if you use Credit Card. This is per Firearm.
  8. Our staff will then verify your information correct and preform a background check.
  9. After you pass and pay you will be on your way!

What if I am Delayed?

Delays are Common and not that big of a deal. A Denial means you don’t get the firearm.
If you are delayed you might have to wait up to 5 Business Days for your gun to be released.
Sometimes it comes back sooner than that but 5 days is the worst case on delays.

How Much Does it Cost?

$35 Cash Per Firearm or
$40 Per Firearm if you use Credit or Debit

Phil’s Guns Unclaimed Property Policy for Firearms and Firearm Transfers

  • Once customer has been notified that the firearm has been received in the store, the customer will have 30 days to pick up their merchandise unless other arrangements have been made with Management of Phil’s Guns
  • After 30 days, the customer will be assessed a $10/day storage fee until the firearm is picked up or the value of the firearm has been exceeded
  • Once the storage fee exceeds the value of the firearm, then the firearm will be considered abandoned and will become the property of Sun City Inc / Phil’s Guns
  • This Policy is effective Starting 12-01-2017
